Colima Ward Members:
This email is meant to be a reminder to continue developing emergency supplies as an individual or Family. Weekly or monthly goals to accumulate the items you need will help you feel prepared and confident if there is a personal or widespread emergency.
Over our nearly 56 years of marriage, Sister Ferreira and I have encountered emergencies big and small that have stressed our family members. These times have brought worries about resources to maintain a healthy and safe home life for a temporary basis. Fortunately there have not been emergencies that have overwhelmed us. Mostly they have been short term situations that we have planned for ahead of time or there were government programs and family that helped. We frequently hear of catastrophes that are less probable to occur; these we should plan for also. But, the most probable emergencies are the short-term ones we should prepare for now.
During an emergency the availability of supplies contained in your living space may not be easily available. It is recommended that those needed items be obtained and stored in a moveable container or bag. Some of these containers may be: mobile storage bins, back packs or duffle bags, etc. Using the information in the attachment entitled “Emergency Preparedness” along with more specific information/attachments within this attachment are: “How to Build a Kit for Emergencies” and “Emergency Pantry Items To Keep in Storage”. You and your family members can develop storage methods and necessities to keep you safe, healthy and confident you will survive a short term emergency.
Of course the information in the attachments are not totally complete for unique individual needs and wants. Special personal and family circumstances will dictate the supplies and food required.
Please review the attachments above and develop a plan to accumulate these supplies at your own speed.
Note: A storage location is necessary so each individual knows where these items are stored if/when an emergency arises.
AGAIN, please review the attached emergency resources for your short term needs; they will guide you in providing for the future.

Dear Colima Ward Members:
Over the decades The Church has admonished the members to be prepared for problems in our lives that take our preparations to “weather the storms” in life. One of these “stores” could be a wide spread disaster like an earthquake, fire or flood. If you have a disaster occur that requires help it is important to contact your ministering brother or sister and report any needs. Or, if you have families you minister to call them to see if there are needs which require help. If there are needs, please call your Elders Quorum or Relief Society leader so that he/she can report the problem through the chain of communication to the Bishop. Belo is an excerpt from the Ward Emergency Plan which explains the communication chain, etc.
WIDE SPREAD EMERGENCY
The Church is organized by Ward to communicate with most if not all of its known members through its ministering organizations; both Priesthood and Relief Society.
The structure of the organization is such that families and single members are assigned to a ministering brother or sister who communicates regularly with their assigned families. If there is a need communicated or seen during an emergency, it is attended to by the minister or communicated to a leader over the minister. The following is the chain of communication:
Member
Along the chain of communication, the emergency reported by the member can be addressed with assistance as needed.
This communication method is simple and effective if each minister reports the needs of the member(s) in need. If the need requires more help than the minister can provide, then the Ward or Stake can help as required.
